The Golden Globe Awards are my favorite award show of the season because viewers see the celebrities seated for dinner throughout the event. You are at an exclusive dinner with the stars!
The Golden Globes were held on Jan. 5 and many Gen Z’ers were on the edge of their seats wondering when Timothee Chalamet would win his Golden Globe. Spoiler alert—he didn’t get the win yet again for “A Complete Unknown”, but many hope his time is coming.
Here are my five takeaways from this year’s show:
- The cast of “Wicked” was popular throughout the show. Many viewers could not stop fawning over Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s sistership at the Golden Globes. Host Nikki Glasser even commented on the cast’s popularity by singing a parody of “Pop-u-lar.” A perspective from a young female viewer: Demi Moore’s win was the most moving and well deserved win of the 2025 show. Moore has been an actress for more than 40 years and this is her first win at 62 years old. She shared how her bosses put her down decades ago and called her a “popcorn actress,” using that experience to emphasize never giving up on your dreams and always trying your hardest to do what you believe is possible.
- Talk about a controversy— TikTok and YouTube reels named Kate Winslet the “GOAT” of the night. People praised her for talking to every guest and being all attendees’ biggest supporters. She even hugged and sat with her nominees who defeated her this season, including Fernanda Torres and Jodie Foster. Many attendees and viewers were annoyed by Kylie Jenner’s presence as Timothee Chalamet’s girlfriend/guest. Kylie was ignored by many celebrities. Many sources even tried to confirm that Demi Moore snubbed Kylie’s attempt to congratulate her, believing a Kardashian is beneath the Golden Globes.
- Congratulations to Hollywood’s newly engaged superstars! Selena Gomez is engaged to Benny Blanco and Zendaya flaunted her new ring from Tom Holland.
- Fashion recap: Fashion is all about different tastes and styles. Ariana Grande’s dress tribute to Audrey Hepburn, was a favorite. Grande will portray Hepburn in an upcoming movie. Anna Sawai wore an elegant dress-—simple and classy is key to an iconic look. Angelina Jolie’s dress was a classic Hollywood approach in a sparkly style. Shoutout to male actors because they don’t get the fashion credit they deserve but Andrew Scott’s baby blue tuxedo was a nice change from black, and Eddie Redmayne’s detective pattern suit was on point.
Many young fans don’t pay attention to award shows because they might not relate to the generation gaps in celebrities and feel the award goes to actors and actresses who are out of touch with their generation. However, the Golden Globes are an amazing yearly event to represent world culture. I hope to see everyone watching in 2026!
