The Le Moyne College Campus Thrift Store needs community support to continue thriving.
The store, located in the basement of the Wellness Center in Seton Hall on Springfield Road, is completely donation-based, so what it receives is what it has. The items are given to students in need and are completely free.
The store needs donations of clothing from the Le Moyne community and the larger community, as well. They can be dropped off at the store when it is open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
College senior Ella Nixon, and her now-roommates, senior Gracie Losani and senior Abigail Craig, started the Le Moyne thrift club in 2024, “as an idea because we all loved thrifting together,” Nixon said.
Losani added that by thrifting, they felt like it was a better way to find “more sustainable ways to take care of our environment.”
However, Losani stresses that “right now, because we run solely off donations, what we have really depends on what we are given.” Nixon emphasized, “We are trying our best with what we have, and if we had money to go out and thrift more clothes for students, we would love to.”
Craig said, “There are certain hoops that need to be jumped through for this store to be structured, consistent, and thriving.”
Nixon added that “so many people underestimate the work that is put into this. On top of the store, we also run the club and meetings. It is so much work, and I am doing it strictly from a standpoint of wanting to help and loving it.”
Craig agrees, stating, “I wish the community sees our passion and shares our love of thrifting and sustainable fashion, while also donating for a good cause.” Losani said that “students can also help by volunteering to work the store, so that we can run smoothly and be open for more days and hours.”
Craig shares that the best way students can make a difference is by “donating clothing to the store, or reaching out to volunteer!” Nixon said that “donations should be made to the store during store hours. If those hours do not work, then send us an email!”
