There’ll be a Billiards Club showdown late Friday afternoon in the Corcoran Lounge at the Campus Center, a matchup between faculty and students from Madden School of Business and Economics and the Carroll College of Arts and Sciences.
The best part of it all, for club members who are hosting the event:
Many players will be using a brand-new pool table.
“Everyone in the club is so excited,” said Kristina Davis, president and co-founder of the billiards club, about getting the new table.
With meetings every Friday at 7 p.m., the billiards club is a community of people who have come together in Simon’s Pub to compete in billiards matches in a tournament-style bracket. Whether playing in singles or a pair, the winner or winners of the tournament get $25 each in splash cash.
This club came to be around two and a half years ago, when Davis, a current senior dual major in marketing and information systems, came to Le Moyne after her first college, Cazenovia College shut down.
“Me and my friends Justin and Kyle bonded cause we were from Caz,” Davis said. “We started playing pool together and felt like it would be a cool club.”
For a club that only started about two years ago, it has made a big splash in the Le Moyne community. After the creation of the club in 2024, the billiard club established itself as one of the top clubs at Le Moyne. This eventually led to the club winning the award for “Best Club” at the 2025 Dolphin Awards, an awards ceremony held by the Student Government Association, or SGA.
But because of the “abundance of pool players” that have started to attend weekly club meetings, a problem started to rise: There were so many players and only one pool table.
“We had to start timing our matches,” Davis said, because table time was precious. Depending on the amount of players wanting to join the tournament, matches have had to be capped at times as swift as eight minutes to make sure that the tournaments were able to be completed.
“Sometimes it’s not enough time to complete our games,” Davis said.
Luckily, this problem has come to an end.
Davis, trying to solve the problems her club was having, asked SGA leaders if they could buy another pool table for their meetings, and luckily the SGA approved that request.
“Legende [McGrath] took it upon himself to buy a table from the same company they got the first table from,” Davis said, speaking of the SGA president.
When asked why getting the new pool table was an important decision, McGrath said “…it demonstrates the importance of having an official campus center where clubs, administrators, and students alike can gather, connect, and feel welcomed in the environment.
“While a pool table may seem like a small addition, I believe it is a meaningful step in the right direction as we continue to advocate for a dedicated campus center that fosters engagement and belonging,” McGrath said.
The new table was installed two weeks ago, and the benefits immediately started to show. A tournament that would usually take the entire club meeting now takes about half the time. This led to more casual games being played and allowed people to start learning new billiards strategies and tricks.
For anyone who wants to see what the club is about, Friday’s tournament begins at 5 p.m. in the Corcoran Lounge, in which students and professors from Carroll and Madden will team up and play against other pairs.
