Le Moyne College will observe Ash Wednesday on Feb. 18 with multiple services open to students, faculty and staff throughout the day.
Mass and the distribution of ashes will be held at 8 a.m. and noon in the Panasci Family Chapel. An additional Mass is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. in the chapel located in the Jesuit residence. Ashes will be distributed at all Mass services.
An ecumenical Ash Wednesday service will also be held at 8 p.m. in the Panasci Family Chapel. The service will be led by Meg Giordano, a philosophy professor at the Le Moyne, and is open to members of all Christian denominations.
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian calendar. The day is traditionally observed through the imposition of ashes, symbolizing reflection and repentance. Lent is a 40 day season leading up to Easter and is often associated with prayer, fasting and acts of service.
The services provide members of the Le Moyne community with an opportunity for spiritual reflection during the academic week.
All events are open to students, faculty, and staff.
