As May arrives, students at Le Moyne College are wrapping up their spring semesters. This time of year is typically hectic for students as they finish off finals, say goodbye to the friends they’ve made at school, and prepare to move back home. All as the weather finally becomes ideal for spending time outside, which lures students to the quad and grassy areas on campus where they gather on blankets or hammocks.
In the midst of this chapter-ending chaos, students often miss the chance to reflect on the year they’ve had and give their own feedback about the place they’ve spent the last eight months.
First-year students have especially come a long way since August, which can feel like a different lifetime after all the changes that can happen during your first year at a new college.
Le Moyne student Luke Carusone is a sophomore finance major who arrived in the fall after transferring from Schenectady Community College. Carusone had anticipated good things out of Le Moyne’s business program but admitted, “I didn’t know what to expect, to be honest” when asked to reflect on his expectations of Le Moyne before the start of the 2024-2025 school year.
As the school year comes to a close, what sticks out for Carusone is the “lovely people” he’s encountered at Le Moyne. Carusone affirms to return next semester, citing his reasons as “I’ve met some great people and I’m enjoying it.”
Similarly, Aidan Cosgrove has positive thoughts about his past months as a dolphin. Cosgrove is a Le Moyne freshman from Clifton Park, New York, majoring in environmental studies and communications.
Cosgrove explains Le Moyne has “gone above and beyond.” He chose the school for its location and quality program for his major.
He came into the school year with expectations of Le Moyne being a small school, with opportunities to work closely with professors as well as having on-campus green spaces. Cosgrove shares, “All of my expectations were met. Le Moyne has provided me with all I have been looking for… Our ability to work one-on-one with professors was even greater than I had thought.”
The freshman plans to return next semester, stating that he likes his program and the environment that the college has offered him.
As the last few weeks of the spring semester unfolded, students seemed to look forward to heading home but will likely miss the atmosphere that Le Moyne has provided them.
