For most, cars are just the most common and easiest way of getting around, but for others, it’s a lifestyle. Car nuts exist on every corner of the Earth, especially online, and this interview will highlight one who’s just getting his foot in the door. BVW garage started as an assignment, but soon became something he wanted to continue for the foreseeable future. All due to his attachment to the cars he and his Dad have worked on for most of his life. This is Jack Van Epps, and this is his Central New York Minute.
David: What college do you go to and do you enjoy it there?
Jack: I go to Onondaga Community College, and I like the education but not the community. That’s mainly because there is none. I’m thinking of going to Plattsburg next semester.
David: What is your major if you have one? Minor?
Jack: I’m doing communications right now, but I’ll be switching to music management once I leave. I don’t yet have a minor.
David: Where did you get your love for cars?
Jack: My dad got a ‘98 BMW when I was 9. We’ve been working on that since. When I was of age to get a car, I got an ‘04 BMW and a ‘00 Golf Gti.
David: What car do you drive regularly? Do you like it?
Jack: I drive the ‘00 Golf day-to-day. I only drive that one because the others don’t run at the minute. It’s so light and small that it feels a lot faster than it really is.
David: What is BVW Garage?
Jack: It started as a PR project, but I decided to keep doing it in order to document the repairs on the cars we have.
David: What gave you the idea for it?
Jack: It was a school project at first. It was in order for students to have experience running a public account, and it has just ballooned from there.
David: Would you prefer them over any modern equivalent?
Jack: There’s so much sentimentality that I would. They are objectively better, but attachment goes a long way.
David: What is your dream car?
Jack: My achievable answer would be a 2019 BMW m4 convertible. My fever dream is a Ferrari 458 Speciale.
David: What is your least wanted car?
Jack: The Nissan Juke or a Cybertruck. Whichever one I see first that day.
What is interesting about the BVW garage is the transition it has made from school project to passion project. Jack plans to greatly expand on what type of content is put onto the account, which currently consists of reels starring the aforementioned BMW’s and VW’s, into more longform efforts that document the repairs he and his Dad are currently making on his cars.
