Students walking past the Le Moyne baseball field may have noticed a few new additions to the team.
Large cutouts of dogs have appeared on the turf in recent weeks, leaving students wondering if the outfield has a few new catchers — or fetchers, rather.
In reality, the canine cutouts were placed there by facilities management to combat the influx of Canadian geese that are seemingly interested in becoming dolphins. The birds have been seen across campus feasting or lounging in the sun, but large flocks have been especially interested in invading the sports fields.
“This has been done for several years to help with this issue, as geese are messy and can pose a safety threat,” said Joseph Della Posta, Director of Communications for Le Moyne.
Though these stationary dogs are neither bark nor bite, it appears they’ve solved the problem for the time being, as the baseball field has been devoid of geese since their appearance.
With any hope, as the weather gets cooler, the geese will head south for the winter, the dogs will be stowed away, and Le Moyne will be back to a dolphins-only campus.
