Students from Le Moyne College helped organize the “Heart and Soul” music tour for Irish singer Seán Collins, which is said to start on November 8th. One location included on the tour is Simon’s Pub, at Le Moyne, which is located on the second floor of the dinning hall and will take place from 8-10 p.m. on the 8th.
The students involved in organizing the event belong to the Le Moyne college communications club. The idea for a music tour started when Le Moyne students took a trip to Ireland last year for their documentary film class. The students met singer Seán Collins while he was performing on the street and listened to his music. The group later attended one of Collins performances at a local bar for something to do during the trip, and while listening to his lyrics and stories the group felt a connection to Collins.
This led to the students having an exchange with the singer and staying in contact after the trip ended. The fascination the students had for the singer would inspire their professor and club moderator, Michael Streissguth, to challenge the students by hosting Collins at Le Moyne for a music show. Students Sofi Cartini, Liam O’Connor, and Taylor Bonner took up the challenge and organized a concert for Collins to perform in Simon’s Pub last year.
The students have said that this experience has provided them with many opportunities in organizing events, specifically with writing press releases, creating promotional materials, and advertising, as well as planning and collaborating with different venues. This opportunity allowed these students to practice and use their communication skills effectively, and get an idea of what a job in communications can look like.
The experience has also greatly impacted Collins, in facilitating his music breakthrough and debut in America last year. This is his second time coming to America to perform, and it will allow Collins to gain more exposure, with 4 shows (so far) coming up at local bars in the CNY area. The first stop is at Coleman’s pub from 4-5:30 p.m., and Le Moyne from 8-10 p.m. on Nov. 8th, then followed by the Kitty Hoynes Irish pub on Nov. 9th from 5:30-6:30 p.m., and ends with a performance at Wolff’s Biergarten on the 10th from 2-4 p.m. All concerts are free and open to the general public, and the first 50 people who arrive at the show at Le Moyne will receive a free drink ticket.
