Playoff season is in full swing

As the semester begins to wind down, spring sports are just getting started in their playoff season. Although this semester has looked different, sports teams are beginning to get back to normal with their first playoff season in over a year.

Men’s Lacrosse played this Saturday in their first playoff game. They pulled out a win against Franklin Pierce with the score of 15-5. They will play Adelphi at home this Wednesday at 1pm for the quarterfinals.

Women’s Lacrosse had a bye this Saturday for the playoffs and will be playing their first playoff game this Monday at 1pm against New Haven on our home turf for the quarterfinals.

Track and Field Conference Championships are this Thursday and Friday at AIC.

Baseball playoffs start May 13th with no set dates for games. Softball playoffs start May 4th with the game dates posted this Sunday.

Kevin Sheehan, a Junior on Men’s Lacrosse, shares his thoughts about playoffs. “We’re not expecting to walk through the play-offs,” he said. “We kind of have to take everything game by game.”

Earlier in the season, fans, including parents, weren’t allowed near the field. The games were originally live streamed, but after pushback from the athletes and SACC, fans are now able to attend games. The games are monitored and counted and they are continuing to be live streamed.

Sheehan explains, “Fans add a whole different aspect to home field advantage. It adds energy that we haven’t had in a year.”

The entire atmosphere is different now that peers and family members are allowed to sit on the bleachers, or the hill overlooking the baseball diamond, and cheer on each team.
