John “Doc” Joiner, a Longtime Le Moyne Athletics Employee, Passes Away

A native of Fayetteville, New York, John Joiner peacefully passed away on November 7th. He was 79 years old and a long time employee of the Le Moyne College Athletics Department.

His 38-year journey serving Le Moyne College begun in 1977 as the College’s first athletic trainer, he held this position for nine years. He also served as the Recreation Center’s building supervisor for three years, and he was also the College’s first Athletic Equipment Manager. He also was the transportation coordinator and a volunteer strength coach.

Joiner was the recipient of the Gold Wave Dolphin Award in 1996 for his outstanding commitment, loyalty, and dedication to Le Moyne College and its student-athletes.

In 1999, Joiner was the winner of the Bene Merenti Medal at Le Moyne’s fall Convocation in appreciation 20 years of service to the College.

In 2009, the equipment room was renamed “Doc’s Place” in honor of Joiner and in 2010 at the Gold Wave Hall of Fame ceremony it was proclaimed that the annual homecoming weekend would be known as the John “Doc” Joiner Homecoming Weekend.

On Saturday, November 17th, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. a memorial mass in Doc’s honor. It will be held at the Panasci Family Chapel at Le Moyne College. Doc will be buried alongside his parents Carlton and Christine Joiner in Tioga Cemetery in Owego, NY.
