On Oct. 16, the Le Moyne volleyball team, after nearly a week off in between matches, took on the University of New Haven. Six days after beating Southern Connecticut State 3-1, the Dolphins returned to action to take on conference foe New Haven in West Haven, Connecticut.

Despite a solid team performance, the ‘Phins lost the match 3-1 after digging themselves into a 0-2 hole to begin the match. They played the third set well, winning 26-24; but dropped the fourth and final set 26-24, solidifying a win for New Haven.

The Dolphins put forth a strong effort in West Haven and this was noted in the team stats. As a matter of fact, the Dolphins registered fewer errors than New Haven and posted a nearly identical hitting percentage. The Dolphins also registered the same number of blocks. Despite all this, the Dolphins’ trip to New Haven was an unsuccessful one.

Notable performances include junior outside hitter Andrea Buchanan, who led the team with 17 kills, 2 aces and 19 digs. Sophomore Kendall Corcoran, who was honored with the NE-10 setter of the week last week, led Le Moyne with 46 assists and freshman Mikayla Poor led all Dolphins with 39 digs.

Freshman Mikayla Poor has starred in the conference. Poor is third in the NE-10 in digs per set with 5.72 and is also fifth in the conference with .43 aces per set. Kendall Corcoran also finds herself in the top 5 in conference in assists per set. Corcoran is fourth in assists per set with 9.53.

Le Moyne still has the second best overall record in the conference [13-5] and is fourth in conference standings with a record of 4-2, only behind Franklin Pierce, Bentley and Adelphi. Le Moyne’s next match is against Southern New Hampshire Friday night in Manchester, New Hampshire at 7 p.m.
