During the offseason Philadelphia head coach Chip Kelly made some of the most questionable moves in recent Eagles history.

For the second year in a row, he let go of star talent after refusing to re-sign DeSean Jackson in the previous year. This off season, he traded star running back LeSean McCoy for Kiko Alonso—who has a history of ACL problems—for trading starting quarterback Nick Foles and a couple of second round picks for Sam Bradford.

The Philadelphia Eagles have been struggling since the beginning of the season. The acquisitions of DeMarco Murray and Kiko Alonso were supposed to be essential additions that would make the Eagles much more competitive in the division and hopefully help them go all the way. Instead they find themselves at the bottom of the division and stand as the only team in the NFC east that has lost more games than they’ve won.

They rank 30th in rushing yards, 26th in passing yards, and are tied for 22nd. The addition of Murray from the rival Dallas Cowboys has not had the impact Philadelphia expected as the RB ranks 81st in Rushing with 47 yards on 29 attempts; while the man he replaced, McCoy, is ranked 34th with 146 yards on 43 attempts.

Maybe rushing into the decision of picking up Murray [no pun intended] was not the best idea that Chip Kelly has come up with. Even quarterbacks have had more luck running the ball. Cam Newton is ranked 24th with 195 yards on 43 carries. Perhaps Kelly should look into trading for Newton because if that deal were to work out, the Eagles would at least have a better option for the RB position or replace Bradford if he got hurt. Bradford missed a complete season last year with an ACL injury.

As an Eagles fan,  it’s hard to walk around campus and have to face the various Giants and Cowboys fans on Mondays as they’re excited from their victory the previous night.

The fact that they did so well during preseason would give one the idea that Philly would be trouble this season, little did we know that they would actually be the ones in trouble early on in the season. There are 12 more games left, four of which are against division rivals, and if the Eagles want to think of even being near the playoffs they need to make some changes.

While I have no advice to offer coach Chip Kelly, I can simply say that more games could be won. Maybe this can be done by having more yards than the other team; maybe this can be done by having more completions than the other team. But one thing that I definitely know is that it works by having more points than the other team. With the first quarter of the season over, one can only hope that it gets better before it gets worse. I mean, there’s nowhere to go but up from here.
