Le Moyne travelled to New Hampshire on Saturday to take on the Saint Anselm Hawks in what proved to be a hard-fought victory. In what was their first road game of the season, the Dolphins showed that they could bounce back after a tough loss the week before.
Only fifteen minutes into the game, Saint Anselm opened up with a goal that snuck by freshman goalkeeper Ben Beaury giving them a 1-0 lead early in the game. Not to be outdone, Le Moyne’s sophomore midfielder James Goodridge crossed the ball from the right sideline to the middle of the field to graduate student forward Fabian Egger who sent a shot flying past the opposing goalkeeper, effectively tying the game at one goal apiece. With only 33 seconds remaining in the half, Saint Anselm retook the lead with another goal making it a 2 -1 game going into half time.
Le Moyne rallied in the second half allowing no goals and only six shots all half. The ‘Phins defense looked impressive as ever as they kept the ball away from their own net for the majority of the half. Beaury also recorded a total of five saves throughout the game with three coming in the second half. But it was the Dolphin’s offense that ultimately won them the game. At the 78th minute senior midfielder Jamie Carolissen took a penalty shot that successfully tied the game up at two. The penalty came after the Saint Anselm goalkeeper pulled down junior back Nick Rauscher. Outshooting the Hawks 12 to six this half, the Le Moyne offense took over the game and was the driving force that brought home the victory.
It was in the final two minutes of the game that Egger recorded the winning goal for the Dolphins. Egger scored on a breakaway goal that put the game away for Le Moyne.
Coming from behind to win 3 –2 this is Le Moyne’s first conference win of the season to put them at 4–1 overall and 1–1 in the NE-10. Looking for another conference victory the ‘Phins squad travels to Garden City, NY to take on Adelphi University in their next game on Wednesday Sept 24.
