The Scoop:
Kenny is a junior on the Women’s Tennis team. This three-year veteran is from Baytown, Texas. She has been a driving force on the team throughout her collegiate career. She has maintained a .500 record at the second singles position this season and has dominated in doubles losing only six matches at the third doubles position. Kenny’s powerful serve and determination set her up for success on the court. This spring season, Kenny registered 48 games. She only dropped 31, and an average of five games per match along with two and a half games per set. Kenny looks to come back even stronger next year to finish out her tennis career at Le Moyne.
How she got started:
“As a freshman in high school I needed to play a spring sport to counter act volleyball in the fall. I had the option to run track or play tennis so I decided to give tennis a try!”
Major and future plans:
Kenny is a political science major with a legal studies minor. She plans on moving back down south after graduation. From there she plans on earning her Masters Degree from the University of Texas. She hopes to be a city manager in the future.
Person/ people who have had the greatest impact on Kristie:
Her parents. “They have always been my biggest support system. Although they did not know a lot about tennis they were more than willing to take me to the courts every weekend to help me work on my game. Even now when I live 2,000 miles away from home they come to watch me play twice a semester.”
Goals she has reached and what she hopes to achieve:
“Since I began playing at Le Moyne I have maintained my position within the top 3 of our lineup. I hope to finish out my senior year by successfully balancing school, work and tennis.”
Advice to other players:
“My advice for other players would be to remember that you are always representing Le Moyne and your family as well as yourself. Take pride in being able to walk on the court wearing green and gold and have fun while being the BEST.”
Kristie’s pregame ritual:
“I don’t have any pregame rituals per say but I tend to be a very superstitious player. I always make sure I am wearing my Texas flag necklace. I never change my strings or grip. I refuse to touch the score cards and I like to pretend that I am an umpire when the ball is called out.”
It is not a rarity to see Kenny bust a move or two during warmups. Her free spirit is contagious on the court.
