Be healthy: Green smoothie obsession

Recently I’ve been on a smoothie kick, and while researching new smoothie recipes, I came across the website simplegreensmoothies.com. I had always enjoyed the Naked brand green juice drinks, but I had never created my own version. This website provides a great resource for smoothie recipes, and how to complete a month long detox where you incorporate at least one green smoothie into your daily diet.

Comprised of at least one type of green (kale, spinach, bok choy or romaine), one liquid (water, almond milk, rice milk, coconut water, green tea) and an assortment of either fruit or vegetables, these smoothies provide the necessary nutrients needed to provide for a healthy lifestyle. These smoothies are refreshing and filling, becoming a powerful energy supplement to any individual. They are great to help boost your immune system, and are fast and simple to make.

For the month of April, Simple Green Smoothies has started their second month-long green smoothie detox, having held their first ever this past January. It is free to join, and each week you receive a shopping list in your email with a different challenge to complete each week. For example, the first week was to switch up your greens, with the second week focusing on incorporating different liquid bases. New smoothie recipes are also included in the email as well, providing an easy and simple guide for new smoothie drinkers.

The great aspect about this challenge and detox is it doesn’t call for you to completely change your diet, but to instead make a wholesome addition to your daily routine. You can have a green smoothie as a meal or as a snack; it is completely up to you.

I joined Simple Green Smoothie for their April challenge and am really enjoying it so far. Each smoothie is so filling, and it is interesting to alternate between different fruits and try out different smoothies that I had never encountered before. They really do provide a great kick of energy and are becoming my favorite breakfast treat. I have included the Beginner’s Luck smoothie recipe below from the Simple Green Smoothie website, and is a great smoothie to try out if you are interested in testing out this healthy phenomenon.
