The Le Moyne women’s volleyball team registered their final win of the season on Friday night at Ted Grant Court. The Dolphins started out slow but ultimately took down NE-10 opponent Merrimack 3-1.

Merrimack came out strong winning the first game 25-14 but Le Moyne stopped the warriors in their tracks. Senior Morgan McDermott said “I think our senior night nerves got in the way of our execution the first game, we weren’t playing the way we should have. Losing was a wake up call.” With a few changes made by head coach Kenneth King, the girls won the next three sets in superb fashion. The match was evened out by one game a piece when Le Moyne won the second game. 25-19. Le Moyne captured the third game 25-15. Senior hitter Bethany Fabian ended the game with a kill.  The final game finished with a 25-19 score. Scoring momentum was transferred between both teams throughout the game. McDermott put away the final point with a kill.

The girls posted some impressive stats. Fabian had an ace and three digs adding to her career total of 1168 digs; fifth best in program history. McDermott had an impressive 11 kills, four blocks and three digs. She finished with a career total of 979 kills, seventh- most in career history and 104 blocks, third-most in program history. McDermott also earned the program’s best career hitting percentage and led the NE-10 for the fourth consecutive year for highest hitting percentage. Senior Allison Hebel led the team defensively with six blocks and 13 digs. Also contributing to these impressive numbers was sophomore Megan Maisonet, who tallied her 13th double- double and sophomore Kristen Willets, who registered seven kills and eight blocks.

Le Moyne ended the season with a 16-11 record. They tied for eighth place in the conference but were beat out of the NE-10 Volleyball Championships. Le Moyne said goodbye to six seniors this year; Kelsey Polanski, Danielle Fetsch, Katie Plukas, McDermott, Fabien and Hebel. Coach King had some positive words when reflecting about the season, “Obviously, we are disappointed by not making the playoffs.  Our team had a tough stretch from Oct 7-Oct 26 where we lost 7 straight conference matches, including three 3-2 losses.  One of those wins would have put us in.  We graduate six very special people from this team.  They gave everything they had each time call upon and will be very tough to replace. Our seniors are Katie Plukas, Kelsey Polanski, Dee Fetsch, Allison Hebel, Morgan McDermott and Bethany Fabian.  Hopefully the groundwork they laid over the past four years rubbed off on the returning players and will help them be strong for us next year.”
