Women’s Tennis concludes fall season against Edinboro

The women’s tennis teams bundled up this past Saturday, Oct. 13 at Skytop Tennis Courts for their final match of the fall season. The cool temperatures weren’t going to keep them from getting one last match in for the season, as Le Moyne faced off in a non-conference match versus Edinboro University.

The women lost 6-3 with all points coming from the singles lineup. Sophomore Margaret LaFleur prevailed in a grueling three set match finishing with a score of 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 at fourth singles. Freshman Allison Jones captured the second point for Le Moyne at fifth singles with a score of 6-0, 6-2. Lastly, junior Kelly Falconer picked up the third point in winning fashion with a solid 6-0, 6-0 win at the sixth singles spot.

The women finished the season 1-6, 1-4 in the NE-10 but their coach, Karen Rafalke, had some positive thoughts about her team in preparation for the spring season.

“We’re not done by any means. The girls will take some time off but will work hard through the end of the Fall semester continuing to get stronger, improve strategy and toughness, we will finally be noticed,” Rafalke said. “Staying determined throughout the fall and spring season to continue working hard outside of practice and conditioning will truly improve themselves as an all around player. As I said several times to them, when you choose to take the day off, there is always someone working twice as hard in the gym or on the court – those are the players who are at the top. They’re working hard and the girls are slowly starting to realize that the top can be within their reach!”
