The Le Moyne hockey team, also known as the Eskimos, convincingly beat the Hamilton Club hockey team on Sunday with a final score of 6-1. The only point made by Hamilton was scored with a mere three seconds left in the game.
The game itself was extremely physical, rallying the team to unite as one.
“Dante Mallaro’s fight ignited the team to run up the score against our opponents,” said sophomore Yaro Nieves.
As a result, both teams equally received penalties, with plenty of penalty minutes for players as well.
Concerning the manner in which the team handled these penalties, Nieves said, “I believe our team did a good job of keeping composure during the game despite Hamilton’s persistence to instigate problems during and after plays.”
Unfortunately, in the second period, junior forward Adam Reask was ejected from the game for misconduct, along with freshman Dante Mallaro for fighting. The intense physical conduct shown by both teams, and the loss of two key ‘Phins players did not prevent Le Moyne from clinching the win. The goals scored in the game were made by Tim Neer, Eddie Maxam, Brendan Chin, Pat Shea, Andrew Skerpon and Yaro Nieves.
The Eskimos remain undefeated in the league thus far, with a record of 8-0. This record places the team as third in the nation, behind Washington University and D’Youville University. The team is also ranked first in the Upstate New York Club Hockey League (UNYCHL). Sunday’s game was the final hockey game for this semester, with the team starting to play again in January for the UNYCHL championship.
