From Pham to Table: Beer Belly Deli

Anthony Pham, Editor-in-chief

Welcome back to this week From Pham to Table. This week’s featured restaurant is Beer Belly Deli.

Beer Belly Deli, also known as Beer Belly, is a local dive bar right in the heart of the Wescott neighborhood. As you walk in you see a loft styled building with industrial elements and art from local artists decorating the walls. The artwork is purchasable if you find a few pieces that you really love. I saw a beautifully painted skateboard that I would have walked out with if someone else didn’t! Inside they have a handmade shuffleboard table to keep you busy as well as an old fashioned arcade machine designed to provoke your nostalgia.

If you’re looking for something to do, they have Open Mic on Mondays, $2 off drafts Tuesdays, Beer Events on Wednesday, Trivia Thursdays. Plus if you’re in the area during an SU game, NFL events or sporting events, it’s $1 off drafts to get you in the door.

The menu is quite diverse and is designed to be inspired by the gastropub style of eating. The menu changes quite often so there’s a chance that you can show up one day with a completely new menu. The ingredients are fresh as well as everything is made on site, daily. They also carry a variety of beers and wine to consume including local craft brews.

The menu contains something for everyone and I’m serious when I say that. No matter what you are craving they have something of interest. For all of my vegetarian readers, trust me when I say you have got to try their food as they have more vegetarian options than I can list.

In terms of drinks, ask the bartender to see what they have on draft that day or look at the numerous screens around the joint to see what’s on tap. I usually prefer a cider when I’m here and they have multiple options under the Can section of the drink menu.

They have Beer Belly options, which I consider to be a mixture of appetizer and late night food. In this section, they have options such as Tenders, Deli-Cut Beer Brined Fries and PB & Wine Strawberry Jelly sandwiches.

This is what I usually have when I’m there and my friends and I love grabbing a bunch of these and sharing them over a round of beers. When I was last here, my friend and I split the Eggplant Wings with buffalo and blue cheese sauce on the side, the Bacon and Smoked Gouda Beer Cheese Fries, and the Grilled Cheese with Sharp Cheddar, Smoked Gouda, Tomato and a homemade MustMayo (Mustard and Mayo) spread.

They have Salads and Bowls that come with either a base of rice or spinach. My friend loves the Cobbacado, which has Turkey, Fried Egg, Candied Bacon Crumbles, Tomato, Avocado Pulp, Blue Cheese Crumbles, and Ranch.

In terms of Sandwiches, they have five different categories, Veggies, Beef, Pig, Bird, and Burgers. No matter your choice they have something to interest you. Also with these, you get your choice of a side and you can have your bread subbed out for rice or a salad if you can’t have gluten.
