General Mills Cereal Appears in Dining Center for 6-Week Period

Sodexo and General Mills have teamed up in Le Moyne’s LaCasse Dining Center to run a
six-week promotion that ends with a drawing for a 32 inch screen television and other
prizes on October 6th.
According to Molly Naylon, the unit marketing coordinator for Sodexo at Le Moyne, the
motivation for bringing the promotion to Le Moyne was a combination of making the
students more aware of what the General Mills brand stands for and finding another
way to get students excited about and involved in what happens in the dining hall.
Naylon recalls feeling initially uneasy about running solely General Mills cereal
throughout a six-week period, especially since Sodexo has connections with Kellogg’s as
well.
“At first, we weren’t sure if we were going to get some pushback from the students
because some people have their favorite cereals that could be a Kellogg’s brand,” Naylon
says. “I could see immediately that students love having the chance to enter to win a free
television and some gift cards.”
Naylon also shares that the promotion comes at virtually no cost to Le Moyne or Sodexo
since General Mills provided both the prizes and the signage that was posted on social
media and around the dining hall.
The students that were interviewed expressed a positive reaction to the promotion.
“I think it’s a cool way to have different kinds of cereal in the caf,” said Christopher
Cantanno, a junior at Le Moyne who visits the dining hall each day. “I think it adds
diversity and variety to the caf, which I definitely don’t think there’s enough of.”
Molly Gallagher, a junior student-athlete at the college, agrees with Cantanno.
“As a student-athlete, it’s important for me to make sure that I’m fueling my body with
the right kinds of food and sometimes it’s difficult to find healthier options for meals,”
Gallagher said. “However, I know that General Mills cereal always contains better
quality ingredients, so that’s something I always feel good about eating whenever I need
something small.”
Students are encouraged to fill out a drawing ticket whenever they are back by the cereal
dispensers and drop it into the designated blue box. Students are then entered into a
drawing for the chance to win either a grand prize of 32 inch screen Smart television or
one of three $25 gift cards for the Le Moyne College bookstore, which will take place on
October 6th.
