Le Moyne Sophomore Ismael Diaz-Marrero Dies After Shooting in Syracuse

The Le Moyne community lost one of its own late Tuesday night after a shooting on the West Side of Syracuse.

The shooting occurred Tuesday afternoon in the 300 block of Grant Avenue. After reports of a shooting Ismael Diaz-Marrero and his younger brother Daniel Diaz-Marrero were rushed to Upstate University Hospital in critical condition. Both brothers died later that night in the hospital.

Ismael, 19, was a sophomore business major at Le Moyne and his brother Daniel, 17, was a senior at Fowler High School in Syracuse.

As of now there is no available information on the suspect and the Syracuse Police Department is investigating what events led up to the shooting.

Le Moyne held a service of remembrance in Green Auditorium this afternoon, sending their prayers and support to the Diaz family during their time of immense grief.

President LeMura sent an email to the Le Moyne campus expressing the community’s condolences and reminding students that there are services available on campus, such as the Wellness Center and Student Development, for those looking to speaking with someone.
