Brooklyn, NY — Two years after admitting he doesn’t know what a crabapple is, Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. [rap artist Lil Wayne] finally learned what a crabapple is when fan Janelle Sanchez, asked him to sign her own personal crabapple, during his meet and greet at Barclays Center on Oct. 20.
“I asked him if he would sign my crabapple and he just stared at it for five minutes then hugged me and whispered ‘thank you’ in my ear,” said Sanchez. “He was so emotional he couldn’t even sign the apple.”
The public first discovered Wayne didn’t know what a crabapple was when he appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s segment, “Mean Tweets—Celebrity Edition” in Oct. 2013. Wayne read aloud the tweet sent by @ted that said, “Lil Wayne looks like a crabapple.” Wayne promptly responded with, “I don’t know what a crabapple is…. Fu— all y’all.”
Both he and the audience laughed at his reaction, but deep down, Wayne was left hurt, confused, and a bit curious.
Feeling embarrassed and frustrated, Wayne seeked answers from friends and family. According to Wayne’s mother, Jacida Carter, Wayne was scared his internet searches would leak to the media if he were to Google what a crabapple is.
Fellow members of Wayne’s record label, Young Money, thought it would be funny to ignore Wayne every time he asked what a crabapple is. “I would just laugh uncontrollably until he would finally give up and walk away,” said Nicki Minaj.
“I thought it was cruel but I couldn’t help but play along,” said Aubrey Graham aka Drake aka Drizzy. “I loved seeing the little pout on his face when no one answered him.”
When asked how he feels about being compared to a crabapple, now that he knows what it is, Wayne said, “I guess I can see a resemblance, fu— all y’all.”
