The leaves are starting to brown and the sun is setting earlier, which means it’s time to break out the fall festivities. Syracuse offers a variety of fun events during the Autumn months, with its endless options for apple and pumpkin picking, corn mazes, haunted attractions, seasonal markets, and more. Check out a few of these fall favorites to kick off the season the right way:

Beak and Skiff: Located in LaFayette, this apple orchard was voted the best in the country by USA Today. The campus features a full café, gift shop, and an orchard with over 15 varieties of apples. The apple-picking season is only at its peak for eight weeks, in which more than 100,000 people visit the orchard. Be sure to grab a hot apple cider and warm sugar donut before you leave.

Abbott Farms: Looking for a corn maze? Look no further. This Baldwinsville farm welcomes you on Friday and Saturday nights to check out the maze—just remember to bring your flashlight. You can catch a ride on the wagon to the field at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., and 8 p.m.

Fright Nights: Celebrating its 11th year, come to CNY’s largest horror experience at the Syracuse Fairgrounds to experience its four chilling attractions. Take your pick from The Clown Prison, The Haunted Mansion, The Hostel, and the new Zombie Paintball Hunt. Fright Nights are held every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from now until October 30.

The Trail of Terror: Experience a new level of horror with this dual attraction located in Volney. Take a walk with darkness through the cursed forest and survive the Halls of Terror, the most intense haunted house around. Afterwards, warm up with concessions and a bonfire.

Local Leaf Hotspots: If a not-so-scary outing is more up your alley, come hiking at Green Lakes State Park and Chittenango Falls to get a stunning view of the fall foliage. The best time to see the brightest fall leaves are the second and third weeks of October. Come a few hours after sunrise or just before sunset for a particularly beautiful sight.

Enchanted Beaver Lake: Take a walk along two 1/3 mile trails illuminated by hundreds of carved pumpkins in Baldwinsville. This popular event goes from October 27 to October 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. So be sure to get your tickets early.

LaFayette Apple Festival: On October 8 and 9, come to LaFayette for a celebration of apples, including a cider mill, craft show, live entertainment, midway, and variety of concessions. Enjoy the fall air as you walk around with the thousands of others who attend every year.
