Netflix original series might be in their peak this year. These OG’s are approaching the release of more seasons. The second season of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt comes out tomorrow. This show focuses on Kimmy Schmidt, a now young adult who was abducted into an apocalyptic cult as a child.
Tina Fey, not only helped create the show, but she also makes an appearance in later episodes. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt follows Fey’s work with 30 Rock. She actually pokes fun at prosecutors on the O.J. Simpson case, Marcia Clark and Chris Dundon. Not only was were the appearances of the “incompetent” prosecutors mocked, but also the accusation of a possible relation was used for comedic effect in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Ellie Kemper plays the show’s frontrunner Kimmy. Kemper is most well known for her roles in The Office, Bridesmaids, and 21 Jump Street. The role was actually written for Kemper. Kimmy and fellow cult members are visiting New York City for a talk show when she realizes that she wants to make life hers after all the years that were stolen from her. In order to adapt to normal life, Kimmy must find a place in the big apple to live and find a job. She meets Titus, the almost breakout broadway star, and after a bit of persuasion, she convinces him to live with her. Titus helps teach Kimmy how to be normal, to a certain extent. He helps her with furthering her education, becoming more social, and assuring her health.
Fey brought in her close friend, Jane Krakowski, to play the role of Jacqueline Voorhees. Fey actually created the role for Krakowski to play the typical, NYC trophy wife. Fun Fact: One of the opening videos in the credits is actually footage of Krakowski as a child, she is the one hula-hooping. Another fun fact, because I am just chock full of them; Jacqueline’s dog in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is the same dog as Jenna Maroney’s in 30 Rock.
There are currently 13 episodes on Netflix that run for about 25 minutes. Be on the lookout tomorrow for the new episodes. If you have not yet watched the first season, hustle to the nearest computer and get watching!
