It is just as important to hydrate the area under the eye as it is for the rest of the face. The skin around the eyes is more delicate than the rest. That’s why it’s essential to use a moisturizer that’s separate from a face moisturizer.
I was once told that the area under the eye is like tissue paper and the rest of your face is cardboard. If you apply a regular heavy facial moisturizer, it is just going to weigh down that area of the eye. To help prevent puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles, try using a light eye cream, preferably one containing retinol.
Not only will the eye cream help puffiness and wrinkles when used morning and night, but it will also help the look of concealer to have a much smoother application. When selecting an under-eye concealer, the color should be one to two tones lighter than the foundation.
If concealer is not enough coverage, then determine if a corrector is needed. Correctors brighten the darkest areas under your eyes, allowing concealers to both lighten and blend. Concealers should blend into your skin, lightening dark circles and instantly making you look better and more awake.
Correctors are available for extreme under-eye darkness. When a regular concealer cannot fully lighten the under-eye areas, a peach or pink corrector is used to counter the purple or green tone, while the concealer tends to hide the blue tone just under the surface.
I feel that one concealer does not cover enough; my dark circles are terrible! I need two different formulas to work together to completely vanish the dark circles and make me look more awake. Concealer is important in my makeup routine because if I am in a rush in the morning, I can apply corrector and concealer and just liner and mascara to look more awake and to help make my eyes pop. If you choose to use both, the concealer is usually lightly layered over the corrector.
One mistake girls make is using concealer to cover up other areas on the face. Under-eye concealers are not formulated for use on blemishes or areas of redness. They are creamier in consistency and lighter than the skin tone. Using under-eye concealers on areas of redness will only highlight the imperfections. Foundations or touch-up blemish sticks are the best way to adequately cover blemishes.
Using an eye cream morning and night and adding concealer to your daily makeup routine will instantly give you a fresh look. It really helps you look more awake and helps pull together the rest of your makeup look. Quick and simple!
