Nat’s Guide to Glamour: Flawless Foundation

When choosing the perfect foundation, it is important to first analyze the skin type and condition to see which foundation will work best with each skin type. A few different options are stick foundation, tinted moisturizer, full-coverage liquid foundation, powder and oil-free formulas. Choose a formula that is right for your skin and has a consistency you like to use.

If the wrong foundation formula is chosen, one may find trouble with shine and dryness, causing the foundation to look flaky. The right foundation will make you look like you are not wearing any foundation at all! You will just have even-toned, great-looking skin.

When choosing which color foundation is perfect for one’s skin tone, it is important to judge the color against the side of the face, across the jawline, and slightly onto the neck. Blend the foundation colors with a sponge or your fingertips and whichever shade looks most natural and disappears into the skin should be the right match. And after choosing the correct color match, it is important to find the right setting powder to hold the foundation in place, helping it to last for hours.

Make sure the foundation is yellow based. Everyone has yellow undertones in their skin. Pink-based foundations look like a mask on most people. Foundation should not change the color of the face but simply even out the tone.

Once you have chosen a few colors to match against the neck, it is important to test the foundation color in natural light. Some lighting changes the look and color of the foundation so it can be hard to choose the right foundation at some department stores.

Some foundations can be very pricey. When going to a beauty counter, ask for a sample of the foundation to bring home. That way you can test the color outside against natural light, wear it for a few days, and see if you are comfortable with the look and with how it feels.

After finding the perfect foundation, tools and brushes (as discussed in the previous article) help you apply foundation quickly and easily with great-looking results. Sponges, also called makeup wedges, are one great tool to use that are also very affordable and can be found at a local drug store. They are easy to use when blending the foundation around the nose.

Some people prefer to use a simple foundation brush; it gives an even and smooth application of the foundation. I also love to use my fingers; they are a great tool for warming and blending the makeup into the skin.

Everyone wants even-toned, glowing skin, especially during stressful times when pimples come out and attack our face (not a pretty scene at times)! Foundation is the perfect beauty product to hide troubled skin and to help make the face look polished and fresh. With practice, it is the easiest and quickest makeup product to apply. It is the base formula before applying the concealer, bronzer and blush. Foundation is the first step to bringing the entire look together!
