Indoor Track Records Top Finishes at Pioneer Invitational

Utica, N.Y. –– The Le Moyne men’s and women’s track teams saw a flood of top finishes, along with some seasonal bests on Saturday Jan. 28 during the Pioneer Invitational.
On the men’s side, junior sprinter Elliot Hernandez and sophomore Hamza Elhabbal set the tone for the Dolphins, recording finishes of 3rd and 6th respectively in the 500-meter run. Hernandez crossed the tape in a time of 1:09.62, his best of the season. Elhabbal came in just behind with a time of 1:10. In the 800-meter, freshman Chris Davitt placed 6th with a time of 2:00.64. In the men’s 3000-meter race, junior Sean Beney paced into a 3rd place finish in a season’s best time of 8:57.65. Sophomore Griffin Klein followed Beney’s example, coasting to a 5th place finish in 16:18.79. In the day’s last events for the men, the 4×200 meter relay team of Hernandez, Nicholas Marchese, Kevin O’Connor and Cresner Holt placed third in a time of 1:38.02. Finally, the freshman distance medley relay squad of Nick Skakel, Alex Flack, Colton Francemone and Connor Price rounded out the day for the men’s team, placing 4th with a time of 12:24.76.
The women’s side was just as impressive, with notable finishes on the day. Sophomore Bethia Nivens started the day on good footing for the Dolphins, with a season’s best time of 1:01.91 on her way to a 4th place finish in the 400-meter dash. Classmate Rachel Miller grabbed a 5th place finish in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:27.45. Sophomore Brittney Mack claimed back-to-back top-six finishes in the 1000-meter and mile runs. Mack placed 2nd in the 1000-meter in a time of 3:10.38 and 4th in the mile, managing to run an indoor season’s best 5:27.90 in the event. In the remaining 4×200, 4×400 and distance medley relays, Le Moyne claimed a 1st place finish and a pair of 2nd place finishes. In their first place finish in the 4×200 meter relay, the quartet of Bethia Nivens, Meg Hubregson, Jordan Sloan and Ashley Anderson ran a season’s best time of 1:49.62. The 4×400 team of Nivens, Sloan, Hubregson and Miller saw similar success in their 2nd place finish with a time of 4:10.93, a season best. To end the day for the women, the distance medley squad of Jillian Stagnita, Allison Iles, Lexi Paulin and Katie Markstein placed second in a time of 14:47.
The Dolphins return to the track this Saturday, Feb. 4, as they travel to Ithaca for their second to last meet of the regular season.
